Fleet Farming – Riverside

Written by Admin

Fleet Farming Riverside is the first of several branches being developed in Jacksonville, Florida by the Public Trust Environmental Institute of Florida and is part of the Fleet Farming Program started in Orlando, Florida in 2014.

The ‘Fleet Farming’ name refers to farmers on a fleet of bicycles, helping to manage the grow-to-harvest process of urban farming. With legal consent from the homeowner, Fleet Farming constructs, maintains, owns and operates a portfolio of highly productive small farms (farmlettes) within a neighborhood’s network of front, side and backyards.

Fleet Farming “sharecrops” with homeowners, offering a small percentage of each harvest to the host family. The remaining produce is sold through local farm stands and a handful of local chefs. Revenues are then reinvested into the program to employ an Urban Farm Manager under our youth-internship program and additionally supports farm expansion to other lawns in the neighborhood, creating a sustainable feedback loop to make lasting change in the community.
